The remote control I use is from Skylink. There is a better alternative for IPODS on the market. It is called the IJET Remote Control. Follow this link:IJET This remote works just well as the website says it does. You can stop and start the music from anywhere in the play area. The Skylink remote is available on line from Target. You can also order it directly from Skylink, but at a slightly higher price. Follow this link:

The best set up is to use a small CD player, a small cassette player, or an MP3 player along with a more powerful powered amplifier that you can plug in separately. Use an audio cable (Radio Shack product no. 42-2433) to hook your cassette, CD player, or IPOD into your amplifier (phones jack to aux in). Many schools have old califones hidden away somewhere. They
look like large record players or cassette players. These are very useful if they have an "Aux in" slot. You can then plug them into your remote and use them as an amplifier. You can also purchase a guitar amp. at Sam Ash or any other store that sells them. Any powered speaker will work. Then you have two choices: Plug the powerful amplifier into the Sky Link remote and the remote into the wall outlet and leave your CD player or IPOD running. The CD player or cassette player needs a separate outlet, The IPOD does not need to be plugged in. The remote control will shut the amplifier. Since your CD player is plugged into a separate outlet, it will continue to play, but you will not hear any sound. An alternative is to plug your cassette player into the remote, keep the play button depressed, and plug the amplifier into the wall outlet. If you use this alternative, you can also use a powerful mini-system -if it has an aux. input - instead of an amplifier. If you do not have a powerful amplifier, you can use a boom box; but make sure that your boom box has the type of cassette player that allows the play button to remain depressed. Some of the newer models work electronically and you cannot keep the play button depressed. Also some models have a digital volume control and the volume will reset to zero. Make sure your volume control is the wheel or slide type.
This remote works on radio frequency waves. You do not need to point it at the your source. It works from over 100 feet away. The disadvantages are that you cannot control the music selection or volume. You can only use it for start and stop. In addition, using this remote is like pulling the plug out. It is not the same as turning the machine on and off. Therefore if you just use it to stop a cassette player, you will eventually wear out the cassette mechanism. That is why you should use the cheapest one available with a good powerful amplifier. If you need a specific music selection - maybe for dance- this remote will not work. You will then have to use the remote that comes with your CD player.
